Doors Open Winnipeg – This Weekend

Heritage Winnipeg presents the 8th annual Doors Open on Saturday, May 28 and Sunday, May 29, 2011. This city-wide public free weekend event is put on annually and this year there are over 70 featured buildings to tour. For more information see the website at www.doorsopenwinnipeg.ca.

Highway 75 (I-29) Reopened

Flood waters have now receded in Morris and Highway 75 (I-29 in the U.S.) is now open. For visitors using this route to Arrowhead RV Park, turn east onto Highway 23 in Morris to connect to Highway 59 North.

May and June Festivals In and Around Winnipeg

On Sunday, May 29, 2011 from 9am to 5pm, the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba is holding the 25th anniversary of the Teddy Bears’ Picnic at Assiniboine Park. The Teddy Bears’ Picnic brings together kids, teddy bears and parents for a day of health education, fun activities and entertainement. Admission is free.

The Winnipeg International Children’s Festival will be held from June 9 to 12, 2011 at the Forks. The not-for-profit festival will offer a variety of activites and entertainement, including performances by Fred Penner. Advance tickets available at Safeway and Assinniboine Credit Union ($12 each or $40 for Family Pack of 4). Tickets are also available at the gate ($14 each or $48 for Family Pack of 4).

The Niverville Olde Tyme Country Fair takes place on June 10 and 11 in the Town of Niverville. See Emerson Drive on the Main Stage on Saturday. Street and Midway Admission prices TBA.

Tickets are on sale now for the Winnipeg International Jazz Festival being held from June 16 to 25. Included in the over 70 artists performing are Robert Plant, New Gary Burton Quartet, Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue, Kellylee Evans and Shad. Kick off your summer with the thrills, chills and fun of the 60th annual Red River Ex being held from June 16 to 27 at the Red River Exhibition grounds. This midway is the biggest summer fair in Manitoba attracting an average of 200,000 visitors in 10 days. Advance tickets are available at Sobey’s and Mac’s Convenience Stores (all you can ride including gate admission for $35 plus GST) or buy online.
